Choco Candy Bar Cake
This recipe has always been one of my favorites. My mother would bring it to church socials and neighborhood potlucks and be always devoured. I've kept her handwritten recipe in my files and it's a great nostalgia trip every time I bake it. It is very rich and full of chocolate, but the buttermilk really helps balance out the sweetness of the chocolate.
Be sure and read through the instructions before you make it the first time - adding the buttermilk at the end is unusual, but it works. This works well with either a confectioners sugar dusting or a chocolate glaze to decorate it but is delicious on its own.
INGREDIENTS
2 sticks of unsalted butter (1 cup)
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs
16 oz chocolate syrup
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 t baking soda
1/4 t salt
2 T vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
8oz chocolate candy bar - we prefer semi-sweet
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Melt chocolate bars and set aside.
Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Add syrup until blended. Sift together dry ingredients and add to the mixture.
Add melted chocolate, buttermilk, and vanilla to the above, and pour into greased bundt pan.
Bake for 60 minutes or until the center is firm. Cool, remove from pan, and enjoy!
