Sober October
Welcome to Sober October! This is something that is new to me, but I am excited about the opportunities. To me it represents choices that I haven’t had in the past to enjoy a glass (or two!) of wine without the side effects.
"Sober October" is a health and wellness challenge that encourages people to abstain from alcohol and sometimes other vices for the entire month of October. The challenge typically involves giving up alcohol, but some individuals also choose to extend it to include other behaviors or substances, such as smoking, junk food, or even caffeine.
The idea behind Sober October is to promote several health benefits, including:
Improved Physical Health: Abstaining from alcohol can lead to better sleep, improved liver function, and overall physical well-being.
Mental Clarity: A break from alcohol can help individuals experience increased mental clarity, improved focus, and reduced anxiety or depression symptoms.
Weight Loss: Cutting out alcoholic beverages and unhealthy snacks can contribute to weight loss or weight maintenance.
Many people take part in Sober October as a personal challenge to reset their habits, improve their health, or simply as a test of willpower. Some may also use it as a chance to evaluate their relationship with alcohol or other substances. Some participants choose to abstain for the entire month, while others may set rules and restrictions that align with their personal goals and circumstances. I am pledging to myself to cut my traditional wine drinking this month by at least 50%, and see how I feel, and if I like it. I can’t wait to let you know how it goes!
