Finding My Voice
Writing is hard. It's not something that I went to school for, I just like sharing my adventures and the wonderful products and people that I discover on my journey. I've never even thought about being a blogger or a writer as a full-time profession - I enjoy being hands on life-styling homes and creating in the kitchen too much.
In June we re-merchandised or staged over 17 homes - after the 17th one I stopped counting :) And what was amazing is that when we did, the houses sold as quickly as we locked the doors behind us. Some of them had been for sale for over a year, so it was a pretty big accomplishment. To say I was exhausted at the end of the day was an understatement, but I love every minute of it. You can see a quick video of some of the houses we did here.
There have been rumors spread that my writing for CandysDirt.com, American Housing Advocates, and the factory built housing industry is sponsored or paid for, but I assure you it's not. Bruce Savage and I started American Housing Advocates so the industry would have a voice that people could trust, and we are thrilled that our presence continues to grow.
A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be invited to Chicago to learn about Jenn-Air and the incredible innovations they have made in the kitchen. I've got lots to share on that later, and it was also an incredible opportunity to spend time with some incredibly talented designers. Blogging and being paid to blog were topics we spent a lot of time talking on and we all agreed that writing and sharing something because you love and believe in it is priceless - you really can't put a cost on it.
Toni Sabatino of Toni Sabatino Style is my role model - her talents and ethics are beyond reproach and is one of the people thatI had the discussion with in Chicago. Her blog is a great example of excellent writing and ideas.
It's a work in progress, but I think I'm finding my voice. My grammar and spelling may not always be perfect, I know I break "writing Rules" all of the time, but what I write and share is my voice, my opinion, and on the house.
If you need a home designed or staged, or if you need some help in the kitchen, I'm your Lifestylist® and there will be a fee - I've still got to pay the bills and keep all of my rescue animals fed! But I'm going to start having fun writing again, and hopefully you will enjoy what I share.
